BIM Coordination

BIM (Building Information Modeling) is an intelligent 3D model-based process that gives architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure. BIM makes operational information accurate, accessible, and actionable.

Technology is transforming the way that buildings and infrastructure are designed, constructed, and operated, and it’s helping to improve decision making and performance across the building and infrastructure lifecycle.

Building information models (BIMs) are files which can be extracted, exchanged or networked to support decision-making regarding a building or other built asset. BSI provides in depth contractor training on its BIM projects. Having high levels of data in a model keeps everyone on the project team on the same page, which can help with all stages of the project from conception to construction, documentation, and maintenance.

Having a strong lead coordination team that is well organized and efficient can often save an owner time and money. Construction Manager’s/General Contractor’s alignment with the coordination team allows for more accurate schedules and cost saving due to minimizing field RFI’s. BIM Coordination ensures a new level of control over projects of all sizes. Better project outcomes are achieved through a complete flow of information among applications and across distributed project teams for greater accuracy across the supply chain.

Relevant Experience

A medical facility client tasked BSI with generating 3D Revit models using project design drawings and contractors layout drawings. BSI attended project coordination meetings & modified the models as required to accomplish full coordination. Once all trades were coordinated in the model, BSI generated enlarged 1/4” scale installation drawings that detailed & dimensioned what was agreed upon in the coordination meetings. This provided immense cost & time savings since issues were worked out prior to construction. In addition to modeling efforts, BSI’s BIM Coordination experience helped to bridge the gap between Design and Construction.
